Tubular Latches

A tubular latch is the sprung latch fitted inside internal doors so a handle or knob holds the door closed. Choose standard, heavy-duty double-sprung and fire-rated CE-marked latches, plus spare tongue strikes. They pair with lever latch handles and door knobs.

Tubular latch buying guide

What size tubular latch do I need?

Latches are sold by case length — commonly 2.5" (64mm) or 3" (76mm). Use the longer 76mm latch with knobs so the knob clears the frame, and the shorter 64mm with levers.

What is the backset?

The backset is the distance from the door edge to the centre of the spindle hole. A 64mm latch gives roughly a 44mm backset; a 76mm latch about 57mm.

Do I need a fire-rated latch?

For fire doors, choose a CE-marked, fire-tested tubular latch, often fitted with intumescent protection to help maintain the door's rating.
