What is a deadlock used for?

A deadlock uses a solid bolt operated by a key, providing a separate locking point for internal and external doors. It can be fitted below a night latch or alongside a sash lock where an additional locking point is required.

How do I measure a deadlock?

Measure the backset from the door edge to the centre of the keyhole and check the case size. Common UK case sizes include 64mm and 76mm.

Do I need a British Standard deadlock?

For external doors where a British Standard lock is required, look for a BS 3621 Kitemarked 5-lever deadlock. Euro profile deadlocks use a separate cylinder, so check the lock and cylinder specifications together.
