Cupboard knob backplates buying guide

What is a knob backplate for?

A backplate is a decorative plate fitted between the knob and the door. It frames the knob, adds a period or contemporary detail and shields the timber or paintwork from knocks and fixing marks.

How do I choose the right size?

Match the plate to your knob or handle: round plates suit single knobs, while long narrow plates span the fixing centres of pull handles. Common handle centres are 96mm, 128mm and 160mm, so check your hole spacing before ordering.

Which finishes are available?

Plates come in finishes such as polished and antique brass, nickel, chrome and matt black, so you can match your existing knobs and the rest of your cabinet hardware.

How are they fitted?

The plate slips over the knob's fixing bolt and sits flush against the door, secured as you tighten the knob. Most need no more than a screwdriver.
