What is a cabin hook used for?

A cabin hook is a simple hook-and-eye catch that holds a door, gate, window or shutter in position. Silent versions have a sprung or lined eye to stop rattling in the wind.

What size cabin hook do I need?

Cabin hooks are measured by length, commonly from around 3" (75mm) up to 12" (300mm). Longer hooks bridge bigger gaps and suit gates and large doors, while shorter ones hold windows and cupboards.

Which finish is best for outdoor use?

For gates and exterior doors, choose stainless steel or a weather-resistant finish such as matt black. Brass and chrome suit interior use and period settings.

How are cabin hooks fitted?

The hook mounts on one surface and the eye on the other, so the hook drops in to hold the two closed or open. Some sit on a rose for a neater finish.
