Rim Locks

Rim locks are surface-mounted onto the face of a door rather than morticed into it, making them a favourite for period, cottage and reclaimed doors. Choose vertical, horizontal, floral and fluted styles, plus rim latches and rim deadlocks, in traditional finishes. Complete the look with matching door knobs.

Rim lock buying guide

What is a rim lock?

A rim lock is a self-contained case that screws onto the surface of the door, with a keep (striker box) fixed to the frame. Because nothing is cut into the door, they suit thinner or older doors that cannot take a mortice.

Which way should a rim lock face?

Rim locks are handed. Check whether your door is left- or right-handed and whether it opens in or out, so the keep and keyhole sit correctly.

What knobs go with a rim lock?

Most rim locks take a pair of knobs on a standard spindle, sitting on roses designed to work with the surface-mounted case.
