What does "gang" mean?

A "gang" is the number of sockets on one faceplate — a 1 gang has one outlet, a 2 gang has two. Most rooms use double (2 gang) sockets; kitchens and offices often benefit from USB sockets too.

Do I need switched or unswitched sockets?

Switched sockets let you turn the outlet off at the wall and are the UK standard for most rooms. Unswitched sockets suit spots where a switch isn't needed.
