What does the gang number mean?

The gang is the number of switches on one plate — a 2-gang antique plate controls two lights or circuits from a single faceplate.

1-way or 2-way?

Choose 2-way to control one light from two positions, such as either end of a landing; 1-way suits a single control point.

Will they suit a modern room?

Antique finishes also work as a feature against contemporary schemes — keep one finish throughout a room for a considered look.
